Meedan is a global technology not-for-profit that develops open-source tools for creating and sharing context on digital media through annotation, verification, archival, and translation. We co-create programmatic initiatives with technologists, newsrooms, fact-checkers, public health professionals, NGOs and academic institutions on award-winning projects from election monitoring to pandemic response to human rights documentation.

Meedan’s product suite includes Check, which brings newsrooms and citizen journalists together to verify news anywhere in the world; Montage, which focuses on video annotation; Keep, an integrated archiving tool; and Bridge, which enables collaborative teams of translators and cultural experts to translate and contextualize global social media quickly and accurately. Our recent partners have included some of the world’s most innovative digital news initiatives, like AJ+, Animal Politico, ProPublica, First Draft, Bellingcat, Rappler and others.

Meedan seeks a talented Program Associate on a full time basis to work on a collaborative project designed to build communities of action to fight disinformation and algorithmic manipulation in order to protect election integrity in the Philippines

The program associate will work with Meedan and a host of media, academic, and civil society partners working to flag election disinformation and promote verified content about the electoral candidates, their parties and platforms in various formats and local languages in time for the upcoming 2022 Presidential elections in the Philippines.

Program Management and Administration 

  • Support the program director to manage relationships and lead communications with all the partner organizations in the consortium to ensure participants meet agreed milestones and reporting targets
  • Support training programs in collaboration with Meedan and Rappler; oversee the onboarding process of partners to the Check workspaces created for the project
  • Attend regular program calls between Meedan, Rappler and partners. As Meedan HQ is in California, some calls may require early mornings or late nights to accommodate for time zones.
  • Provide notes, documentation and logistical support for meetings and training sessions for the project
  • Manage the negotiation and execution of MOUs and other partnership agreements. 
  • Manage the creation of purchase orders and the processing of invoices for any qualifying partners, ensuring compliance with Meedan fiscal policies. 
  • Provide partner training and capacity building support in collaboration with Meedan team members in APAC 
  • Work in close collaboration with Meedan and Rappler teams to make sure all reporting targets are met 
  • Join the newsroom discussions and meetings to represent Meedan (online or in-person in the Philippines, whenever in person travel and public events are possible).
  • Produce blog posts and other publications to help publicise the work 

Product Support

  • Work with the Meedan product team on providing feedback on the use of the Check platform, Meedan’s fact-checking software
  • Support partners in the use of Check and other Meedan tools, for ongoing and limited-scope projects and events, including training workshops, conferences and public events.



  • At least 2-3 years experience in journalism or related field, with interest and expertise in media literacy (online & offline), fact checking, content moderation, anti-misinformation research, technology and training
  • At least 2-3 years experience working in the Philippines
  • Fluency in English and Tagalog
  • Familiarity with online tools for journalism and project management, such as Jira, Airtable, Trello, Mailchimp / Substack, Crowdtangle, Google Dataset Search etc.
  • Experience with project management


  • Understanding of other languages in the Philippines
  • Experience working remotely in multicultural environments
  • Attention to detail and organization
  • Good communicator
